Nurses are good in LK. Gen surg is bad there, very bad surgical department. Anaesthetics was very good there for me, good department. Call shifts were very tough. They only have one med reg covering whole hospital including ED. Therefore interns manage all patients on wards in evenings and nights. You are dealing with very sick patients and it’s really above your pay grade the decisions you are making because you cannot contact med reg cus they are busy in ED dealing with a stroke or a DKA for example. A reviewer reports serious patient-safety concerns after repeated requests for senior review went unanswered, leaving an intern distressed and unsupported. This is the big issue with LK, lack of support and the call shifts are very tough and you have too much responsibility as an intern. Otherwise Accomodation fairly easy to get, nurses very good there, you build great comradery with your intern colleagues up there, manpower defo better there than Galway for when you can’t go to work, LK is a nice little town, decent pubs. You get to know everyone in the hospital so you can text people stuff and be less formal
