• Register the new employment with Revenue in myAccount (Jobs & Pensions) before your first payday
• Give payroll your PPS number and bank details
• Check the first payslip is on a cumulative tax basis, not emergency
• Check the first payslip shows the correct increment point for your years in grade
• Check pension and ASC deductions are present and plausible
• Register for online payslips and download each one as it issues
• Set a reminder for the TSS deadline (the Thursday before July changeover)

• January: review your Tax Credit Certificate in myAccount
• Download the previous year's Employment Detail Summary
• Flat-rate expenses (€695) claimed and carrying forward
• Medical expenses submitted for the previous year and the three years before
• Rent tax credit claimed, if renting
• Income protection premium relief claimed, if self-paying
• Payslip reflects any pay-agreement increase and the correct point
• AVC headroom reviewed and any top-up decided before 31 October
• Health insurance compared at renewal rather than left to renew automatically
• PRSI record checked on MyWelfare for missing contribution years

• Flat-rate expenses: €695, includes the Medical Council element
• Rent tax credit: €1,000 (€2,000 jointly assessed)
• Income protection premiums: relief at the marginal rate, if self-paid
• College and training body fees paid personally (after checking TSS first)
• Medical and dental expenses: current year and up to four years back
• Tuition fees for postgraduate courses not covered by TSS
• Remote working relief for days genuinely worked from home
• Health insurance relief: confirmed at source, or claimed if employer-paid

• NER account active, with the TSS and CCERS modules accessible
• Current TSS balance known, with claims planned before the July reset
• Upcoming exams checked against the CCERS approved list
• CCERS claimed within 6 months of each passed exam
• Failed exam attempts claimed through TSS instead
• If on HST: Specialist Training Fund balance checked (it rolls over)
• If not on a scheme: enrolled in CPD-SS before 30 September
• Relocation expenses claimed for the most recent move (up to €1,000)
• Laptop or tablet claim timing known (€1,000, once per 4 years)
• All receipts retained for 6 years, as claims are subject to audit

• Emergency fund of 3 to 6 months' outgoings in accessible cash
• Expensive debt cleared or reducing on a plan; credit cards cleared monthly
• Income protection in place, with the deferred period aligned to HSE sick pay
• Pension scheme membership understood, including what it pays at retirement
• AVC headroom calculated, with a regular contribution in place
• A basic will made, where anyone depends on you
• Investing outside the pension only after the above are in place

• Current account clean for 6+ months: no missed debits, no unplanned overdraft
• Standing order to savings the day after payday, for the same amount each cycle
• Payslips downloaded from every rotation
• Increment point verified, as it sets the borrowing ceiling
• Tax reliefs claimed (they also determine the Help to Buy refund)
• Short-term debt cleared or visibly reducing
• Help to Buy and First Home Scheme eligibility checked if buying new
• Document pack ready: contract, Employment Detail Summary, Medical HR salary-certificate contact
• Application timed for a settled post; Approval in Principle lasts 6 to 12 months
