In the Irish system, acute unselected medical take experience is delivered inside the dual-certification HST programmes, which combine a medical specialty with General Internal Medicine, including a high-intensity GIM year described in the RCPI Institute of Medicine training handbook. Doctors seeking an acute-physician-type role in Ireland train through these dual specialty/GIM schemes rather than through a standalone Acute Medicine HST.
