Use the ESMO/ASCO curriculum and current oncology guidance to review knowledge across tumour sites, systemic treatment and supportive care. ESMO’s trial-question site offers a separate 100-question self-assessment exercise; its results have no official recognition. Use that exercise for practice, not as evidence of passing the examination.

ESMO Examination in Medical Oncology
RCPI recommends sitting the ESMO examination once during Medical Oncology HST, using it for self-assessment rather than Irish certification. It is separate from the ASCO in-training assessment, which RCPI asks trainees to attempt at least once.

When NCHDs sit it
Once over the course of Irish HST is recommended. ESMO advertised its 2026 examination for 24 October during the Madrid congress; see the official page for the next cycle.
